Lujiazui
Lujiazui is the area across the river from the bund. It is the location of Shanghai’s new financial district. Also know as Pudong the area is home to The Oriental Pearl Television Tower, Shanghai International Convention Center, The Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium and Shanghai Natural Wild Museum.
Jade Budda Temple
Built in 1928 after the original was destroyed during the revolution that ended the rein of the Qing Dynasty. The temple is home to two famous jade statues however the huge complex that houses the statues is just as impressive.
Yuyuan Garden
During the Ming Dynasty Pan Xuduan a Sichuan governor decided to prove his love and respect for his parents and ancestors by constructing a private garden for his parents in Shanghai. The garden took nearly 20 years to build and was not finished until after the death of his parents. The garden consists of three halls, Sansui Tang Hall, Cuixiu Tang Hall and Yuhua Tang Hall. There are also many other sights including a stone exhibition gallery, a famous jade rock and a grand rockery.
Shanghai Old Street
Shanghai Old Street which has undergone huge renovations in the last few years will give you a taste of 1920's Shanghai. The area has recreated the Ming and Qing dynasty style architecture wonderfully. The streets are lined with stalls selling anything from jewelry to deep fat fried whole duck, perhaps only for the more adventurous. The famous Shanghai Tea house is located in the center of the 825 meter long series of streets on a small lake. A nice place to try and escape the hustle and bustle.
The Bund


The Bund or waitan as it is know in Chinese meaning foreign shore derives its English name not form a German expression as commonly mistaken, but from the Hindustani word “band” meaning an artificial causeway or embankment. The Bund is a throw back to the colonial days of foreign powers, before the second world war. The Bund is slowly sinking and in the early 1990s the front along the Bund was redeveloped to prevent flooding. A walk along the Bund in the evening offers excellent views.

One of the best ways to view the city. HuangPu river cruises give one a fine platform from which to view the city.
Oriental Pearl Television Tower
On a clear day the Oriental Pearl Television Tower offers a bird's eye view of Shanghai. Completed in 1995 and standing at 468 meters it is the tallest tower in Asia and the third largest in the world. The tower was designed to resemble big and small pearls falling on a jade plate. The scene is taken from old Tang Dynasty poem Pipa song by Bai Juyi. The 50 person high speed elevator brings people up to the 263 meter high viewing ball.
Jin Mao Tower
The fifth tallest building in the world and the second tallest in China, the Jin Mao is a modern architectural classic designed using elements taken from an ancient Chinese Pagoda. The 88th flloor of the Jin Mao Tower standing at 340 meters tall offers some of the best views in Shanghai. Literally translated the towers name means “Golden Prosperity”. The tower is home to the Shanghai Grand Hyatt Hotel.
People’s Square
The point that defines central Shanghai is now home to The Shanghai City Hall, The Shanghai Grand Theatre, The Shanghai Museum, The Shanghai Art Museum and The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Prior to 1949 The People’s Square was home to Shanghai Race Course. After gambling was prohibited by the communist government the area was converted to The People’s Square.
Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center
Located in People’s Square The Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Center has as its center piece scale model of the entire city of Shanghai. The center gives the vistor an idea of Shanghai’s great achievements in construction since its liberation.
